This unit of competency supports new workers and others in the various horse industries who are required to perform basic stable duties while working under supervision.
This unit can be contextualised for other industries while also maintaining the integrity of the unit.
This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to work with well-educated horses to clean and maintain the stable environment, feed and water horses, identify and use basic grooming equipment, and recognise signs of healthy and unhealthy horses as well as common illnesses and injuries in horses.
The term well-educated horse' refers to an animal that has undergone sufficient training to ensure that it behaves in a safe, tractable and manageable way when being handled, even by inexperienced personnel.
It is recommended that RGRCMN201A Follow OHS procedures and observe environmental work practices and RGRPSH101A Catch and handle quiet horses under supervision be delivered in conjunction with or before this unit of competency.
This unit of competency operates in work environments of stables, yards, paddocks and public areas. No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
